Fee-only, fiduciary financial planning for gay couples who want their money handled by advisors who already understand their lives.
This is for gay couples who have built real wealth and want one coordinated plan instead of two separate ones. Maybe you are merging finances after years of keeping them apart. Maybe one of you earns more and you want a fair way to plan together. Maybe you are thinking about retirement, a home, or how to protect each other if something happens. You want advice that is built around your actual relationship, not a template made for someone else's.
We use one integrated process for every couple we work with. First, spending guardrails: a clear, simple framework for how much you can spend and save without second-guessing every choice. Second, integrated tax planning: we look at both of your situations together and plan year-round, not once a year at filing. For most clients we handle tax planning in-house, though it is not required. Third, factor investing: an evidence-based way to build your portfolio that is designed to capture long-term returns without chasing trends. The goal is one plan that treats you as a couple, with the tax and legal details handled along the way.
Spark Wealth Advisors is a fee-only, fiduciary firm. We take no commissions and sell no products, so our advice is built around you, not a sale. Our work is led by Christopher Johns, EA and Series 65, and Jake Skelhorn, CFP, who bring tax and planning depth to every relationship. We are a gay-owned firm built for affluent gay men, which means you do not have to explain your life before you can get good advice. You start the conversation already understood.
Not ready to talk yet? Download our guide, Retirement Planning for Couples in Florida: The Seven Decisions. It walks through the choices that matter most for couples planning their future together, in plain English, with no pressure.
Do we both need to be involved in the planning? Ideally yes. The plan works best when it reflects both of your goals. That said, we meet you where you are and can start with whoever is ready.
How do you charge? We are fee-only. That means a flat, transparent fee and no commissions. We do not earn money from the products we recommend, because we do not sell products.
What if one of us earns a lot more than the other? That is common, and it is exactly the kind of thing a coordinated plan is designed to handle fairly. We build the plan around your real situation, not an assumption about how couples should split things.
Can you help protect each other legally, not just financially? We are not attorneys and we do not give legal advice. But we coordinate with estate planning attorneys so the people you choose are the ones protected. We stay with you along the way, so you never have to navigate it alone.
Do you have to be gay to work with us? No. Our goal is to provide a safe and welcoming place for gay men, so their comfort and privacy is never in question. But we welcome and love working with clients from all walks of life.
Do we have to be in Florida? We are a Florida-registered firm, but we work with clients nationwide virtually.
